SUMMARY of the 2008 Discover Cozumel Race
A Land Challenge that got the hearts pumping, taxis racing, tempers flying and all walked away with an unforgettable experience as the divers were exposed to some of the best kept secrets of Cozumel along with some of the most popular things to do in Cozumel.
When divers arrived to Hotel Flamingo they had to locate missing puzzle pieces throughout the hotel facility. Once all pieces were located, the puzzle had to be completed...as you can see in the last photo the pondering look of the divers as they could not find the last piece......There was even discussion that perhaps another team took the piece to sabotage the potential winners -- However, the missing puzzle piece was later located in the safe of one of the rooms by the staff of Hotel Flamingo. It was a heated race with Taxis driving furiously (I will not say how fast I heard that one of them was driving) but I will say that one of the taxis rear ended another to make the taxi move. It was a small tap on the back end but the taxi drivers truly enjoyed trying to assist in winning the race.
As I spot checked some of the sights, frustration was set and voices were loud. "WHERE ARE THE KEYS" as I entered Hotel Barracuda -- scrambling around, the clues were there but some how some of the clues were discarded in the trash by cleaning personnel...the fun had just begun! Juan, Manager of Hotel Barracuda rescued the task and the teams moved on!
The Discover Mexico stop had divers begging to get back so that they could spend time and take a real tour of something they never new existed.
I should have listened to Scott at Mini Golfito, 3 putts was to easy -- next time 2 putts for sure. They have the best JELLO SHOTS on the island, I later learned (the hard way).
The Tequila tour at Hacienda sent the divers spinning and falling to the ground. We also learned that they are closed on Sunday afternoon so we had to do our shopping in town. (They do have a shop in town now!)
I have never seen such overlap though -- I sent all divers in different directions but here they came one after another almost directly on top of each other at Hotel Flamingo and then on to Coral Princess. Xantel of Hotel Flamingo and Nohemia of Coral Princess kept the smiles as team after team bombarded each lobby. At Coral Princess, the challenge took divers to the top of the roof to search for clues and plunged them into water but aggressively and quickly divers completed the task. I don't think Alicia and a few others want to experience CHILI Nachos at Carlos n Charlies anytime soon -- there were a few bathroom complaints for days after. (TMI for a nurse) Divers finally arrived to the famous Senor Froggs and the task entailed emptying the shooter bottler. I heard that 3 of the teams without knowing selected the very same guy to empty the entire bottle (this poor guy was carried out later that day)
All good races must come to an end -- Margaritaville, the final stop. I walked in to find teams swimming in the water screaming "I can't find the clue", other team members running back an forth looking for the pirate lady (she was a now show at work, someone said she was out sick) and another team off in the distance spending money quietly to earn the easy pass and avoid the traffic jam. Regardless of the confusion and the fun -- with only a few bruises on the backside and a broken toe, the race to Discover Cozumel was one of the favorite events of the week.
